Accreditation Criteria for Anti-Neoplastic Therapy Units
(Previously published as Chemotherapy Facilities)
SASMO and SASCRO, the professional associations responsible for the accreditation of Anti-Neoplastic Therapy Units, reviewed the prevailing accreditation criteria for such facilities during the past few months.
The updated criteria were published on the 25th June 2007.
The accreditation documents were adapted from the American Society of Clinical Oncology 1997 Recommendations.
Accreditation is not restricted to members of SAOC, SASMO, SASCRO or SASH. Any qualified and registered medical practitioner/specialist treating patients with cancer is encouraged to apply for accreditation. Accreditation refers to the facility in which therapy is administered and does not reflect on the qualifications of the treating doctor.
Accreditation permits the facility to charge the specialist codes 5790 to 5795 for chemotherapy administered.
Accreditation is renewable annually and an administration fee is payable for the first inspection.
A list of accredited facilities is published on the SAOC website and regular updates are sent to the South African healthcare funding industry/medical schemes.
To apply for accreditation, please complete the application and the facility details forms (listed below), and fax to 08660 75166 or e-mail to info@saoc.org.za.
