PolygamŪ is a biological agent administered in various conditions presenting with primary antibody deficiencies including but not limited to myeloma, chronic lymphocytic leukaemia with severe hypogammaglobulinaemicrecurrent infections, immunomodulation in idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpera and allogeneic bone marrow transplant.
It is a long infusion, four hours plus, and not without potential serious reactions.
It is the SAOC, SASMO, SASCRO and SASHs opinion that PolygamŪ should be administered in an accredited facility under expert supervision for the conditions mentioned.
Should this administration be done on an outpatient basis in such an accredited facility, the infusional codes as per SASMO Fee Rules should be reimbursed.
These rules are available as a download from the SAOC Website.
