The SAOC motivated accreditation programme for oncology practices was launched on 1 November 2005. SAOC has appointed the professional associations, SASMO and SASCRO, to coordinate and conduct the physical inspection and final accreditation of oncology facilities in South Africa. The programme aims to accredit more than 100 facilities by end December 2005.
The accreditation programme is in line with the Council of Medical Schemes' initial intention that only accredited practices may use or charge the specialist oncology specific NHRPL facility codes, the so-called 57-codes.
Applications for accreditation of facilities must be sent to SAOC Head Office or faxed to 012 667 2073. Applications should include comprehensive practice details, contact details and medical specialty.
