Following an agreement with the Radiological Society of South Africa (RSSA) SAOC was appointed to administer the RSSA PET-CT Scan Authorisation Program, a funding program RSSA launched in conjunction with Discovery Health.
RSSA plans to avail this program to the rest of the funding industry.
The program commenced officially on 1 August 2006, and motivations for PET-CT Scans for 5 major conditions will be assessed by panels comprising oncologists, radiologists and nuclear physicians. Criteria are agreed between Discovery and RSSA.
RSSA developed guidelines for most diagnoses that might require PET-CT scans.
